COMPOSER
JOSHUA SALZMAN is an award winning composer with two decades of experience writing and arranging for the stage and screen. Featured in Playbill.com’s list of “Contemporary Musical Theatre Songwriters You Should Know,” his works have been performed Off-Broadway, at Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and theatrical venues around the world. Salzman has received numerous awards for his work in musical theater, including the Jonathan Larson Award, the American Musical Theatre Project Writers Residency Award, and the ASCAP Frederick Loewe Award.
Along with lyricist and bookwriter Ryan Cunningham, Salzman’s 2006 Off-Broadway musical I LOVE YOU BECAUSE was a part of the NAMT Festival of New Musicals. The cast recording is available on the PSClassics label, which has generated hundreds of productions across four continents and translated into five languages. Also with Cunningham, Salzman’s musical NEXT THING YOU KNOW has been produced at CAP21 in New York, and across America and in Europe, with an album produced by Yellow Sound Label. Musicals currently in development include THE LEGEND OF NEW YORK (O’Neill finalist) and MICHAEL COLLINS (ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop with Stephen Schwartz). EDUCATOR
As a sought after educator, Salzman has given masterclasses at numerous colleges and universities, most recently at Northwestern University, New York University, Michigan State University, and Purdue University. He has taught at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, Lincoln Center's Songwriting in the Schools, and Rosie's Theater Kids.
Salzman currently serves as the Choral Director and AP Music Theory instructor at Livingston High School in Livingston, New Jersey.
